Bone Appétit, Homemade Dog Treats

Why not include our pets in the baking fun? Bone appétit – we’re making homemade dog treats with Victoria Kurek!

A silver lining of the pandemic has undoubtedly been more time at home with family – especially our furry family. While we applaud essential workers, the best that many of us can do is stay home, give our pets some extra love, and connect with family over home-cooked meals. Quarantine has sparked various cooking trends on social media, notably the banana bread and sourdough challenges. But why not include our pets in the cooking fun? Also, bear in mind you can hire a clinical pet nutritionist on Petworks for remote consultation, from anywhere, anytime!

Dogs shouldn’t be subjected to dry kibble and the same boring canned food, day in and day out. There’s no reason why we can’t add life to their meals and make it fun, colorful, and healthy! We have been making specialty treats and lunch snacks for our customers at Golden Paws Pet Care and the dogs totally dig it! Below is one of our most requested treats. As the dogs would say, bone appétit!

Pup-Tart Ingredients:

2 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup peanut butter

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup powdered sugar

Colorful sprinkles

Parchment Paper

Baking Sheet

Steps:

  • Mix together the flour, baking powder, peanut butter, and milk in a mixing bowl.
  • Spread out evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ideally the dough should be 1/4 inch thick.
  • Bake in oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes until lightly golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
  • Cut into rectangles.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the powdered sugar and a few drops of milk until you get a frosting-like paste–if you’d like, you can add a drop of food coloring to make your frosting a vibrant color!
  • Frost your rectangles and spread colorful sprinkles on top.

Note: This recipe makes approximately 15 pup-tarts that are 2×4 inches. Treats will last up to 1 week in the refrigerator. Enjoy!
