The breed
The German Wirehaired Pointer is a sturdy, medium-to-large sporting dog with a distinctive rough, weather-resistant coat. Its wiry outer hair, dense undercoat, bushy eyebrows, and beard give it a rugged, expressive appearance. Coat colors commonly include liver and white, often with ticking, roaning, or patches. The breed has a strong, athletic build, floppy ears, and an alert, purposeful expression.
Known for its intelligence and versatility, the German Wirehaired Pointer is energetic, determined, and enthusiastic. It was developed as an all-around hunting companion and typically has a strong instinct to explore and follow scents. Many are loyal and affectionate with their families while remaining confident and watchful around unfamiliar people. Their lively, focused nature suits an active, outdoors-oriented lifestyle.
