The breed

The Schipperke is a small, sturdy Belgian dog with a foxlike face, bright dark eyes, and alert, pointed ears. Its dense black coat forms a noticeable ruff around the neck, with fuller fur over the shoulders and hindquarters. Many Schipperkes have little or no visible tail, adding to their distinctive outline. Despite their compact size, they have a lively, confident presence.

Schipperkes are known for being energetic, curious, and bold. They often seem keenly aware of everything happening around them and can be playful, clever companions. Their watchful nature gives them a reputation as excellent little watchdogs, and they may be reserved with unfamiliar people. With their spirited personality and strong sense of independence, they are often described as big dogs in small bodies.

Are you looking for a small, watchful companion to keep up with an active household? Consider a Schipperke for that role.
