The breed

The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a large, athletic dog with a strong, balanced build and a short, sleek coat that is usually wheaten in color, ranging from light cream to rich red-gold. Its defining feature is the narrow ridge of hair along the spine that grows in the opposite direction from the rest of the coat. The breed has a broad head, muscular neck, deep chest, and an alert, dignified expression.

Rhodesian Ridgebacks are often calm and reserved around strangers but affectionate and devoted with their families. They are intelligent, confident, and independent-minded, with a history as versatile hunting and guardian dogs in southern Africa. Their steady presence and natural watchfulness can make them seem serious, though many also have a playful side with people they know well.

Are you looking for a large, capable companion for active outdoor adventures? Consider a Rhodesian Ridgeback for that role.
