The breed

The Great Pyrenees is a large, powerful dog with a calm, majestic presence. It has a thick double coat, usually white or white with gray, tan, or reddish markings, along with a broad head, dark expressive eyes, and a plumed tail. Its weather-resistant coat and sturdy build reflect its history as a mountain livestock guardian.

Typically gentle, patient, and affectionate with its family, the Great Pyrenees is also independent and watchful. The breed is known for a strong protective instinct and may be reserved around unfamiliar people while remaining devoted to those it knows. Despite its imposing size, it often has a calm, dignified manner.

Are you looking for a large dog to watch over your home or livestock? Consider a Great Pyrenees for this role.
