The breed
The Bouvier des Flandres is a large, powerfully built dog with a rugged, farm-dog appearance. It has a broad head, dark expressive eyes, and distinctive beard and mustache that give it a serious, whiskered look. Its harsh, tousled double coat is commonly seen in shades of black, gray, brindle, or fawn.
This breed is generally calm, steady, and intelligent, with a strong sense of loyalty to its family. Bouviers are often watchful and reserved around unfamiliar people but affectionate with those they know. Their confident, dependable nature reflects their history as versatile working dogs in the Belgian and French countryside.
