Donna Baxter's journey into the equestrian world was an unconventional one. She wasn't the typical horse-crazy child; in fact, her immersion into the realm of horses didn't begin until the late 1990s when her own daughters embraced horseback riding. Yet, it's precisely this unique background that gives Donna a profound connection with horses. Viewing the horse world through the compassionate lens of an adult, her late introduction allowed her to see horses without preconceived notions or childhood conditioning. This fresh perspective enabled Donna to discern nuances in equine behavior, performance, and care that many riders often overlook. By actively seeking to expand her understanding and knowledge, Donna's curiosity and passion for comprehending horses led to a more profound level of communication and interpretation through their physicality and being. Her approach, rooted in respecting the horse's "voice" expressed through behavior, reactions, and physical condition, ignited her mission to foster balance in both the horse's physical well-being and the horse/rider relationship.
Today, Donna stands as a distinguished figure in equine education, boasting over two decades of dedicated service at the local and regional levels of the United States Pony Club. She has assumed various leadership roles within the Vashon-Maury Island Horse Association and remains an active contributor to the Puget Sound equestrian community. Donna actively participates in eventing with her horse Quin, a once-feral four-year-old acquired in 2001 who wouldn't even approach humans for food. Donna, alongside her husband and eldest daughter, calls the pastoral island of Vashon, Washington, home. Her youngest daughter pursues a career as a veterinary technician, and their family is complete with three horses, a goat, a dog, a cat, and even a hedgehog residing on their farm.
