Mariah worked with Shadow as a puppy nearly 6 years ago, and was nothing but phenomenal. As I start a training journey with a new puppy, I am so grateful for amazing work she did and the training she instilled in him. We still use her training tips to this day and I wish I was still in the Richmond Area. 10/10 recommend if you are looking for a great trainer! - Originally posted on Google, October 2025, Richmond VA
- Andy SWe had the great fortune to get Mariah as our trainer when we signed up our newly adopted dog, Honey, for training. Honey was found on the side of the road and had clearly never had anyone work with her in any way. She was scared and withdrawn. Mariah was so patient with both us and Honey. She recognized the importance of us developing a strong relationship with Honey and spent a lot of time helping to foster that. She equipped us with the tools to train Honey outside of class. We were able to use her tools and tips to continue teaching Honey well beyond the end of our course. And now we have a confident, sweet, well-behaved dog. Many thanks to Mariah for establishing a strong foundation for us and our girl!! - 2021, Richmond VA

Recommended Certifications for Dog Trainers
When choosing a dog trainer, professional certifications are a strong indicator of expertise, experience, and commitment to ethical, science-based methods. Widely recognized credentials include the CPDT-KA or CPDT-KSA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, which demonstrate mastery of modern training techniques, canine behavior, and learning theory. The KPA-CTP (Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner) highlights trainers skilled in positive reinforcement and clicker training, while the IAABC Certified Dog Trainer credential, recognized internationally, signals advanced knowledge in behavior modification and problem-solving. Membership or certification through the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) further reflects ongoing education and adherence to ethical standards. Many trainers also pursue specialty certifications in areas such as aggression management, behavior modification, or puppy development to address specific challenges.
For pet parents, choosing a certified trainer like Mariah Dudley, ensures that your dog’s training is grounded in science, safety, and compassion. Asking about a trainer’s credentials is one of the best ways to make a confident, informed choice.
