We Talk Dog - Private Dog Training Service - Irondale, AL
We Talk Dog provides high quality training, boarding, daycare, and grooming. For the past 3 years we have been voted the best Dog Daycare in Birmingham!
We Talk Dog was founded out of Adam Summerford’s love for training dogs. We are happy to help get your pack on the right track! Whatever behavior problems you may be experiencing with your dog, it is important to know that with our help, these problems can be corrected. Remember: our training is a program, not a quick fix, but an investment in your dog.
We offer several different programs for training.
- House calls, where we come to train you to train your dog in your home.
- In-House Training, which can be for either two or three weeks of board and train, then passing on that knowledge to you. We just get your dog started down the right path and show you how to continue it.
- Puppy Jumpstart, is for dogs 6 months and younger. They come for a one week board and train to learn socialization, crate training, as well as beginning stages of obedience.
- Private Niche Classes, which are one hour session to concentrate on one or two behaviors.

When choosing a dog trainer, professional certifications are a strong indicator of expertise, experience, and commitment to ethical, science-based methods. Widely recognized credentials include the CPDT-KA or CPDT-KSA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, which demonstrate mastery of modern training techniques, canine behavior, and learning theory. The KPA-CTP (Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner) highlights trainers skilled in positive reinforcement and clicker training, while the IAABC Certified Dog Trainer credential, recognized internationally, signals advanced knowledge in behavior modification and problem-solving. Membership or certification through the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) further reflects ongoing education and adherence to ethical standards. Many trainers also pursue specialty certifications in areas such as aggression management, behavior modification, or puppy development to address specific challenges.
