HERE for You in this painful chapter.
Support offered virtually via secure video. Available everywhere.

My heart aches for you that you are here.

As a pet mom, pet loss grief specialist, and former veterinarian oncologist and emergency clinician, I can relate to the agony you are in.

Maybe you are staring at a painful decision no one should have to make.
Maybe your baby is already gone, and you feel lost.
Maybe there is guilt sitting on your chest that will not lift.

You do not have to carry this alone.

If you are deciding:
You might worry of making decision too soon or making the wrong decision.
For this, you will receive compassionate guidance on what is best for your beloved and you.
You will have someone who understand both the medical and the heavy heart help you look at options objectively and also compassionately for you and your baby.
Not telling you what to do or prescribing for your baby, but helping you arrive at a place that you can take the next step with more confidence.

If your beloved has already passed:
You will receive the guidance you want on navigating your grief.

For some, you might want support on how you go on now your baby is no longer here and your heart is so broken you feel you can’t.
On what to do when the house feels so empty the silence is maddening.
When waking up without your baby after a sleepless night feel like another nightmare.
For some, you might want help with guilt, the what-ifs, or how to move forward.

Wherever you are in this journey, you are at the right place to receive the support you want, tailored to your needs.

Having helped more than 25,000 grieving individuals using integrative heart, body, mind approach, I am here for you in ways that is most comfortable for you.

When you schedule our consultation, you will be heard, and we will discover what you need and the support that suit you best.

Message me here whenever you are ready; it will be the right time.

There is help even when you can't yet see how; thus, there is hope.

How did you hone your craft?

Helping pet parents for 25+ years as a pet loss grief specialist, and veterinary oncologist, primary care, and emergency clinician. Plus my own heartbreak of loving and losing my own beloved companions, and experiencing other grief along the way since childhood.

What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?

Your grief is valid. Your feelings are valid. Many people will say "it was just a pet," or "get another one," or "be grateful you had the time you did." They mean well, but they don't understand that for many of us, losing a beloved companion is harder than losing a family member. Not because we love our people less, but because the bond is different. You are not alone in this. This is not a journey anyone should walk without an understanding, experienced guide who can meet you exactly where you are. If you feel lost and uncertain right now, that is normal. Find a support person who truly "gets" you, and take it one step at a time.

What is one thing you want pet parents to know about you? It can be whatev-fur you'd like!

I was honored with the Morris Animal Foundation "Award of Excellence" in March 2013, and the Women Economic Forum "Women of Excellence Award" in November 2019. KIT, my kitty boy and coauthor of Sunbeam Days and Shadow Hours: KITty Wisdom to Thrive Joyfully and Grieve Gently, thinks he is the king of the house.

💙 There are moments in the grief process when what you need most is simply to be heard by someone who truly understands — someone who knows that the loss of a pet is not a small thing, that the silence in the home is real, and that what you are carrying deserves the same compassion and attention as any profound loss. That is what Birgitte offers.

What Birgitte Can Help You With

Pet loss grief arrives differently for everyone — and Birgitte works with each client according to where they are in their own process, without a fixed agenda or a predetermined timeline. Sessions with Birgitte typically address processing the immediate emotional aftermath of losing a pet, navigating anticipatory grief for those preparing to say goodbye to an aging or seriously ill companion, working through guilt and doubt around end-of-life decisions including euthanasia, finding meaningful and personal ways to honor your pet's memory, adjusting to a daily routine that has been fundamentally altered by their absence, and helping other family members — including children and surviving pets — move through the loss in their own way. If you are not sure exactly what you need, that is completely normal. Birgitte's first session is designed to help you find that out together.

Why Book With Birgitte

Choosing the right person to help you through pet loss is a deeply personal decision — and the most important thing is finding someone whose presence feels safe and whose approach feels right for you. Because sessions are conducted virtually, there is no commute, no waiting room, and no need to hold yourself together in a clinical setting — you can show up exactly as you are, from the place where you feel closest to your pet's memory. Birgitte serves clients throughout California and is available to anyone nationwide through PetWorks.
