Presence Without Proximity - Animal Reiki - Nationwide

Member since Jul 2026

Do you hide the suitcase when you are packing?

Does your animal watch the door long after you are gone?

Have you ever wished you could connect with your animal energetically, live and in real time, even across distance?

Everyone rushes to help the animal. Nobody thinks to ask how their person is doing.

That is the gap I built Vitalis Light to fill.

I offer distance Reiki for animals and their people, live over Zoom, anywhere in the world. Your animal stays exactly where they are, at home, at the barn, at the boarding facility, in whatever room they already feel safest in. Nothing is moved and nobody travels. You join from wherever you happen to be.

Through the Shared Connection Method™, an animal and their owner are held together in a single session at the same time, whether you are in the same room or on opposite sides of the ocean. Most animal Reiki works with the animal alone. This is a way of being with your animal that does not depend on being near them.

Presence without proximity.

How I work:

Reiki is already present. My practice is to quiet myself enough to hold the space, and to let your animal recognize it and settle in their own time.

Your animal is never restrained. No holding, no positioning, no crate unless that is where they already rest. They are free to come close, wander off, or sleep through the whole thing.

Every session is live and scheduled with you. Nothing is pre-recorded.

I make no medical claims. Reiki is complementary care, offered alongside your veterinarian, never in place of them.

Over thirty years in animal care, including nearly a decade at Best Friends Animal Society, first in the dog department with a population of more than 500 dogs, later as Manager of Horse Haven. Reiki Master in Usui Shiki Ryoho and Animal Reiki Practitioner, certified 2016. Certified Pet Loss Grief Coach with distinction, with training in animal hospice care. I continue to study traditional Japanese Usui Reiki Ryoho in a traditional lineage and forever will be a lifelong student.

Sessions support companion animals, horses, anxiety and time apart, senior and hospice care, and animal loss and grief.

I came to Reiki through the animals, not the other way around.

How did you hone your craft?

The animals taught me first. Nearly a decade in sanctuary work, starting in the dog department with a population of more than 500 dogs, then managing the horse program at twenty-three. Rescue work, private veterinary practice, and a humane society after that. Thirty years of learning to read an animal before anyone hands you a chart. That is the part you cannot take a course in. Knowing when an animal is settling and when they are shutting down. Knowing when to move closer and when to stay exactly where you are. Reiki found me at the sanctuary when I was twenty-one, long before I had any thought of practicing it. Certification came much later, as a Reiki Master in Usui Shiki Ryoho and an Animal Reiki Practitioner in 2016, then ICRT Reiki I and II, ICRT Animal Reiki I and II, an Animal Hospice Short Course, and a Pet Loss Grief Coach Certification with distinction. I now study traditional Japanese Usui Reiki Ryoho under Bruce Taylor of Roots of Life. Every session sharpens it further. The animals are still the ones teaching.

What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?

Stop trying to make it happen. The most common mistake I see is a person who loves their animal so much that they crowd them. They reach when the animal has turned away. They coax. They hold on a little longer than the animal wanted. All of it comes from love, and all of it teaches the animal that closeness is something that gets done to them. Try the opposite. Sit down on the floor, get quiet, and give your attention to something else entirely. Do not look at them. Do not call them over. Then wait. Almost every animal I have known will come to you once they are certain they have a choice about it. The ones who take the longest are usually the ones who need it most. The whole practice, thirty years of it, comes down to that. Be still, be safe, and let the animal decide when.

What is one thing you want pet parents to know about you? It can be whatev-fur you'd like!

I am not going to promise you a miracle. There is a lot of language in this field about clearing, fixing, and transferring energy, and I have never been comfortable with any of it. The tradition I study teaches something different. Reiki is already present. It is not mine, I do not generate it, and I have nothing to push toward your animal. What I have is a practice. That practice is the work of quieting my own mind completely, and holding that stillness for the length of a session without wavering. It sounds like doing nothing. It is the hardest thing I do, and it takes years to do it well. The symbols and the meditations I have trained in all turn inward, toward my own steadiness, never outward at the animal. What that gives your animal is a room with no agenda in it. Nothing wanted from them, nothing being done to them, no expectation to meet. Animals are extraordinarily good at reading intention, and most of them have never once been in the presence of a person who wants nothing. Given that, they settle. Some within minutes. Some sleep. Some wander off and come back at the end. They take what they want from it and leave the rest, in their own time. That is not a limitation of the practice. That is the practice. Everything I do sits alongside your veterinarian, never instead of them. The other thing worth knowing is that I built this for you as much as for your animal. When something is wrong, everyone attends to the animal, and the person holding it all together goes home and falls apart alone. So there are three ways in. Your animal can have a session on their own. You can have a session on your own. Or the two of you can be held together in the same session, at the same time, which is the Shared Connection Method™ and the reason I built this practice.
