How did you hone your craft?
My photography career started more than 30 years ago as newspaper reporter in Canada. I shot sports action and general news for more than 10 years. I moved over to digital photography in the 1990s when I started taking my heart dog, Shep, hiking in the Alberta Rocky Mountains. Taking pictures of him in beautiful settings started a natural transition into wanting to share my art with other pet parents.
What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?
The biggest comment I get from pet parents is "but my dog is crazy and uncontrollable." That's OK! I don't profess to be a "dog whisperer" but I do make an effort to understand their behaviors and reactions to new experiences. I like to spend a few minutes with your pet before we start our session, ensuring he gets to a certain level of trust with me. And, most importantly, your dog is always on leash with you in control ... for his safety and your assurance.
What is one thing you want pet parents to know about you? It can be whatev-fur you'd like!
I always carry treats. ;-)
