Nantucket K9 Obedience - Private Dog Training Service - Plymouth, MA
I began my career at the MSPCA ' s Boston Animal Shelter in 1985. It was truly heartbreaking to me as a young adult to care for so many animals, young, healthy animals that were surrendered. To realize that most of these pets were abandoned, or given up between the age of 7-18 months, were because of "behavior issues". Sadly, not all of these loving dogs did not find homes, we just did NOT have the space. They were not bad dogs, they just needed patience and training. That is what stuck with me, I would do what I could to help educate people to better understand their dogs needs, in hopes of keeping them in their homes!
My Career with the MSPCA/Angell Medical Center continued in Boston for 13 more years, then on Nantucket for one final year, until I resigned to devote my time to training & education

When choosing a dog trainer, professional certifications are a strong indicator of expertise, experience, and commitment to ethical, science-based methods. Widely recognized credentials include the CPDT-KA or CPDT-KSA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, which demonstrate mastery of modern training techniques, canine behavior, and learning theory. The KPA-CTP (Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner) highlights trainers skilled in positive reinforcement and clicker training, while the IAABC Certified Dog Trainer credential, recognized internationally, signals advanced knowledge in behavior modification and problem-solving.
