Customer Reviews
My dog is much more relaxed after one day at Hearts and Paws. He pulls less and seems more confident. He had a great experience.
- George WThe staff at Hearts and Paws are so kind and I feel that they genuinely care about my dog. They are always there if we are in a bind and need last minute care. We also took our dog to their puppy kindergarten class, and they were wonderful there as well.
- Miranda BWe've primarily used Hearts and Paws for dog classes.. We started with their more advanced obedience class which was great to get some more training outside of normal puppy training classes. The trainers were fantastic. We also took our pup to their beginner agility class and had a blast. Our dog really liked it and we've learned a lot. Tons of patience on Kelly's side, but really great.
- Justin WMy puppy loves Hearts and paws. She starts jumping with excitement as soon as we pull in. She loves her puppy play time! We have completed the puppy class and are almost finished with the basic companion class both have been awesome. They make dog training very simple and enjoyable for myself and my puppy. They have also helped me personally to work through any issues that come along with a new dog. For example puppy biting, excessive barking, crate training and so on. I Definitely recommend hearts and paws!
- Nicole TIt's a long commute for us since we moved outside Austin but this is the only place we'll leave our dog. She's really suspicious of strangers but the staff at Hearts and Paws are very knowledgeable about dog training and behavior so they know how to put her at ease. She's also taken several agility and other training classes there and enjoyed them immensely.
- Yvonne DGreat place and very friendly staff. Went here for lure course practice. Large yard and knowledgeable staff. Will definitely be making this a part of my dogs routine. Great way to spend time with your dog. They offer a variety of classes. Must check out!

When choosing a dog trainer, professional certifications are a strong indicator of expertise, experience, and commitment to ethical, science-based methods. Widely recognized credentials include the CPDT-KA or CPDT-KSA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, which demonstrate mastery of modern training techniques, canine behavior, and learning theory. The KPA-CTP (Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner) highlights trainers skilled in positive reinforcement and clicker training, while the IAABC Certified Dog Trainer credential, recognized internationally, signals advanced knowledge in behavior modification and problem-solving. Membership or certification through the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) further reflects ongoing education and adherence to ethical standards. Many trainers also pursue specialty certifications in areas such as aggression management, behavior modification, or puppy development to address specific challenges.
For pet parents, choosing a certified trainer like Diana Smith, ensures that your dog’s training is grounded in science, safety, and compassion. Asking about a trainer’s credentials is one of the best ways to make a confident, informed choice.
