Certified Professional Dog Trainer - In Home Training - Grand Bay, AL
I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA). This means that I took the extra effort to take a professional examination about my knowledge in dog subjects including training; I must take ongoing continuing education classes to maintain that certification. I am a reward based, force free trainer. I have other certifications, but let’s talk about what I offer.
I specialize in teaching dog agility, treibball, and tricks. Most of my classes are private lessons which are reasonably priced. You will get personalized feedback, video recordings, lesson summaries, and homework. I also present seminars and teach small group classes.
I teach all ages of handlers. While I train all breeds of dogs from Yorkies to Mastiffs, I have a special passion for small statured dogs, because I show and judge for the Teacup Dogs Agility Association.
My other certifications and associations are: PhD; Agility - NADAC Judge (SP1), TDAA Master Judge, AKC ACT Evaluator, TDAA Trial Host; Treibball - ATA Judge, ATA CATTII trainer, ATA Board Member; Tricks - DMWYD CTDI and Stunt Dog Judge, AKC CGC/Tricks Evaluator; Other - AKC ATT Evaluator, CGC Evaluator all levels.
Please contact and book me on Petworks. Thank You.

Recommended Certifications for Dog Trainers
When choosing a dog trainer, professional certifications are a strong indicator of expertise, experience, and commitment to ethical, science-based methods. Widely recognized credentials include the CPDT-KA or CPDT-KSA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, which demonstrate mastery of modern training techniques, canine behavior, and learning theory. The KPA-CTP (Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner) highlights trainers skilled in positive reinforcement and clicker training, while the IAABC Certified Dog Trainer credential, recognized internationally, signals advanced knowledge in behavior modification and problem-solving. Membership or certification through the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) further reflects ongoing education and adherence to ethical standards. Many trainers also pursue specialty certifications in areas such as aggression management, behavior modification, or puppy development to address specific challenges.
For pet parents, choosing a certified trainer like Melissa Wallace, ensures that your dog’s training is grounded in science, safety, and compassion. Asking about a trainer’s credentials is one of the best ways to make a confident, informed choice.
