I'm Cherish Danforth, and I have a had a passion for animals since before I can remember. Some of my of earliest memories were helping heal injured birds, catching turtles and snakes. I feel for those animals that are misunderstood by humans causing them to be euthanized, surrendered, and abused. In 2014 I started a local rescue group for pit bulls. Most of the dogs I have taken in have been cruelty cases from abuse to dog fighting. Over the years I have learned to communicate with dogs in a way that has opened my eyes to how to train them. I am now and will forever be learning from these amazing creatures that God created in his image, a true creature of unconditional love. I have been studying animals since 1995 and working professionally with them since 2007. I believe teaching the owners of these animals to understands their thinking and language is key to strengthening their bond for a life time. Being a pet owner takes hard work and commitment just as it does for children, but asking for help when times get tough or for guidance to be the best parent you can be is one of the best steps you can take for your companion.

I'd love to meet you and your dog and assist in your relationship whether it be starting a puppy off on the right foot or helping an old dog change a problem behavior. I feel the longer I train the more I learn. I believe trainers carry a responsibility to constantly educate ourselves and our clients to be the well balanced leaders in our dogs lives. believe in being a balanced trainer. My training style is not based purely on positive training but combining everyday situations with real life consequences. Every action has an equal reaction. I take the tools I use seriously and use each tool with respect and knowledge of their use. I pride myself in educating owners on how to create an amazing bond with their pet by learning how to communicate and become fair pack leaders.

Recommended Certifications for Dog Trainers

When choosing a dog trainer, professional certifications are a strong indicator of expertise, experience, and commitment to ethical, science-based methods. Widely recognized credentials include the CPDT-KA or CPDT-KSA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, which demonstrate mastery of modern training techniques, canine behavior, and learning theory. The KPA-CTP (Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner) highlights trainers skilled in positive reinforcement and clicker training, while the IAABC Certified Dog Trainer credential, recognized internationally, signals advanced knowledge in behavior modification and problem-solving. Membership or certification through the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) further reflects ongoing education and adherence to ethical standards. Many trainers also pursue specialty certifications in areas such as aggression management, behavior modification, or puppy development to address specific challenges.

For pet parents, choosing a certified trainer like Cherish Danforth, ensures that your dog’s training is grounded in science, safety, and compassion. Asking about a trainer’s credentials is one of the best ways to make a confident, informed choice.
