How did you hone your craft?

I have always been in love with dogs, and began by sitting and walking neighborhood dogs while in high school. After college, I pursued a career in communications and worked on my training skills by parenting as many as five rescue dogs at once. In 2013, I made the decision to quit my corporate job and follow my dream of becoming a full-time, professional dog trainer. Best decision I’ve ever made!

What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?

You, as the human, set the tenor of your relationship with your dog. Use lots and lots of positive reinforcement, and try to see the world through your dog’s eyes. So what if he can’t stay in place for more than three seconds? So what if she only sits every other time you ask her? You can work on that. Much more important is that your dog WANTS your approval and enjoys training with you. Your job is to be your dog’s hero, and everything else will fall into place.

What is one thing you want pet parents to know about you? It can be whatev-fur you'd like!

My six dogs (all rescues) are far from perfectly behaved, but I wake up thinking about them, I plan my day with activities that involve them, my meals revolve around them, I go to sleep thinking about them, and, of course, I dream about them!
