Force-Free Dog and Puppy Trainer - Virginia Beach, VA

Member since May 2026

For the past 16 years I’ve been implementing Modern Ethical Training method established by behavior studies of canine cognition since the 1990’s.

Positive training does not mean bribing with treats. It’s an approach which allows the dog to figure out the right choices, but does not by punish the mistakes. Dog thrive in these classes, since their owners learn to set their dog up to succeed at each step toward the goal of the lesson.

When a dog doesn’t grasp the owner is teaching, his owner will learn not punish or blame his dog for being stubborn. I teach multiple solutions to this situation which will help the dog understand. Often, the owner expects too much too soon and must learn to “slice” elements of the behavior into smaller—but attainable sections.

Learning theory studies suggest that each successive step needs to be mastered and practiced before moving to a harder step. This is the valuable lesson learned in class…and it’s the one learned by the owner!

If all you care about is having your dog passively respond to basic commands, I’m not for you. But if you want to build a relationship of mutual respect with your dog and want him to become a thinking, joyful learner instead of a passive receiver of commands, then you are the client I want!

I specialize in teaching puppies to problem solve and to love learning new things. Beside several levels of obedience classes, I teach AKC Agility and Rally. I have a class to prepare a dog to become certified by Alliance of Therapy Dogs. And I am a certified evaluator for AKC titles in Trick Dog, STAR Puppy, and all levels of Canine Good Citizen.
