Name: Shinshi
Animal: Dog
Breed: Akita
Birthday: January 5, 2020
Will travel to vet. Shinshi is 1/2 American Akita, and half Japanese Akita. He’s a good boy. He’s not your typical Akita though. Unlike our previous 2 Akitas from show breeders, Shinshi is not aloof. He loves to be around us a majority of the time. He is actually quite playful and lovey, too. He puts his muzzle on our legs when we are sitting. He loves to be pet. We find him laying at our feet, often. He LOVES women. He gets along with men, children and other pets. But, he does not like small dogs as he was terrorized by chihuahuas. He is a rescue (we are his 4th family) and we have worked very hard with his human issue anxieties that he has overcome (abandonment and physical/verbal abuse). Shinshi enjoys a very zen life on our 6 acre property. He is an indoor/outdoor dog. Our home is quiet. We play the sound of a babbling brook every night. By day, it’s typically quiet or spa music, traditional Japanese or Celtic ladies singing. Sometimes we play traditional Greek or jazz in the evening. When he joined our family (at 7m), he learned to ring a bell to go outdoors. When he rings that bell, out he goes onto an enclosed porch. There, he picks a dog bed to watch the world go by on our corner of our subdivision, which isn’t much…but just enough action for him. Mostly animals and people go by on our gravel lane. When it thunders or the clouds look dark, forget it! He refuses to go out. He needs his trazodone, and then the Shiba Inu, Yuki, becomes his emotional support dog. Yuki follows him around and watches him. She stays near him and keeps him company, a lot closer than usual. Those two are friends and play throughout the day. Shinshi has hurt her shoulder once and she had to have PEMF therapy. He just doesn’t realize she’s a quarter of his size. Yuki is a little scrapper though. I like to think our dogs are spoiled, but also know who is alpha in the pack. Their health and wellbeing is important to us.
