How did you hone your craft?
I honed my craft through ten years of hands-on experience in the transportation industry, managing logistics under pressure, coordinating complex routes, and learning how to stay calm when things don't go as planned — because they never always do. Pet transport specifically taught me things no classroom could. Every animal is different. Every owner has a different level of anxiety. I learned how to read both. I raised dogs alongside kids, which gave me a foundation of patience, instinct, and the ability to keep everyone safe and on schedule simultaneously. I invested in formal pet handler training, obtained my USDA registration, and built a team of vetted drivers so that my standard of care wasn't just mine — it became a system. I didn't fall into this. I built toward it deliberately, and every shipment since has made me sharper.
What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?
The biggest thing I've learned is that your energy transfers directly to your pet. If you're anxious at drop-off, they feel it. The best thing a pet parent can do is say goodbye with confidence — short, warm, and calm. Your pet takes their cue from you. A long, emotional goodbye actually makes the transition harder for them. Second — communicate everything upfront. Quirks, fears, feeding schedules, what calms them down, what sets them off. The more I know before I ever open that door, the better I can advocate for your animal on the road. No detail is too small. Third — trust the process. Once your pet is in our care, constant check-in texts every hour can create anxiety on both ends. We send updates proactively. No news from us is good news — it means your pet is settled, comfortable, and moving safely. You hired a professional because you love your pet. Let us do our job. That's the best thing you can do for them.
What is one thing you want pet parents to know about you? It can be whatev-fur you'd like!
I take this personally. Every single time. When you hand me your pet, you're handing me a family member. I don't forget that for a single mile. I've had clients tell me they were more nervous about their pet's transport than their own cross-country move — and I get it completely. That's why I built SHA-Pet Transport the way I did. Not to move as many animals as possible, but to move each one the right way. I am reachable. I communicate. I problem-solve in real time. And if something unexpected happens on the road — weather, a detour, a rest stop that takes longer than planned — you'll hear it from me before you ever have to wonder. What I want every pet parent to know is this: your pet is not a shipment to me. They're the whole reason I do this work. And I will treat them exactly the way I'd want someone to treat mine.
