Mobile Studio Pet Photography Tucson - Tucson, AZ
I bring a mobile photo studio throughout greater Tucson, which means your pets can be photographed in the environment where they're already comfortable: home.
The practical effect of that matters more than it sounds. A dog who goes rigid in a studio will often settle within twenty minutes of a session that starts in their own backyard. A cat who disappears at the sound of a carrier can be photographed in the spots they've claimed as their own. I work on the pet's timeline, not mine, and the portraits that come out of that approach tend to look like photographs of the animal you actually live with, not an animal enduring a photo session.
I hold an MFA in photography from the Academy of Art University and the Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) designation from the Professional Photographers of America. I've been a PPA member since 2008 and an ASMP member since 2011. My shelter animal photography has been published in two books by Merrell Publishers: Shelter Cats and Shelter Puppies. I've volunteered as a photographer at Pima Animal Care Center since 2013 and at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona since early 2025.
That shelter background shapes how I approach a session. I know how to read an animal who's uncertain about a stranger in their space, how to slow down when slowing down is what the moment needs, and when to put the camera down and let the dog come to me. Sessions run as long as they need to and stop when they need to stop.
Every session starts with a design consultation before we schedule. We talk through your goals, your pet's personality, what you want to do with the photographs, and what your walls look like if you're thinking about a print. That conversation shapes the session itself. I bring professional studio lighting, backgrounds, and everything needed to produce the same quality you'd expect from a traditional studio, in your living room or your backyard.
After the session, I deliver a curated online gallery. Prints are available in a range of sizes and materials, produced in-house on an Epson 9900 large-format printer using archival fine art papers. If you want a wall portrait that will outlast the next decade of phone upgrades, I can produce it.
The business started in Lexington, Kentucky in 2006, moved through Washington state, and settled here in Tucson at the end of 2011. My service area includes Tucson, Oro Valley, Marana, Vail, and the Catalina Foothills. If you're just outside that radius, reach out and I'll let you know whether we can make it work.
Booking starts with a conversation. You can find me at michaelklothphotography.com.
