Julie's Canine College - Dog Training - Kremmling, CO

Member since Mar 2021

Hi and welcome! I’m Julie.

My desire to help people and their pets stems from being a Certified Veterinary Technician for 20 years and having owned numerous pets for more than 30. At one time, I had 11 pets. I'd love to hear more about your dog(s)!

I've trained dogs for more than seven years, the last 2-1/2 years, entirely virtually! This may not seem like it's effective, but read what some of my clients say:

“I can’t recommend Julie enough! My dog, Tyra, and I have been working with her virtually for over two years. Online lessons are so convenient! It’s so nice to nice to not have to leave the house and get one on one attention specialized for our particular needs. Plus, we can train in our home environment, which is great for reinforcing and solidifying our lessons. And I can go to Julie with any question, problem, or situation even between training sessions and she always has a remedy or recommendation. I’m so glad we found Julie! -Sarah & Tyra - Akron, OH

"I got my puppy, Penny, before the pandemic hit and we had some in-person training but felt that Penny and I needed more training after she graduated from in-person training. Julie is an amazing trainer and always had answers/suggestions to my MANY questions. She worked with Penny and I not only on basic cues but advanced behavior training and also anything that I was struggling with. If I had a question off-hours, Julie would get back to me ASAP. The weekly video training that we started off with was such a great alternative to in-person training and I actually preferred it because there were less distractions and we didn't have to travel anywhere to get good training! Thank you Julie for helping not only Penny but also myself learn all of the good ways to be a good dog parent! - Emily and Penny, Chicago, IL"

In addition to dog training, I’m also an SEO copywriter for the pet industry and work for Petzey, a virtual pet appointment app.

I'm a member of APDT and IAABC, as well as Fear Free Certified.

I look forward to working with you and your dog!

Recommended Certifications for Dog Trainers

When choosing a dog trainer, professional certifications are a strong indicator of expertise, experience, and commitment to ethical, science-based methods. Widely recognized credentials include the CPDT-KA or CPDT-KSA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, which demonstrate mastery of modern training techniques, canine behavior, and learning theory. The KPA-CTP (Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner) highlights trainers skilled in positive reinforcement and clicker training, while the IAABC Certified Dog Trainer credential, recognized internationally, signals advanced knowledge in behavior modification and problem-solving. Membership or certification through the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) further reflects ongoing education and adherence to ethical standards. Many trainers also pursue specialty certifications in areas such as aggression management, behavior modification, or puppy development to address specific challenges.

For pet parents, choosing a certified trainer like Julie Burgess, ensures that your dog’s training is grounded in science, safety, and compassion. Asking about a trainer’s credentials is one of the best ways to make a confident, informed choice.
