What year did you begin serving pets?

Club Canine opened its doors in 2011 with an already established Training and behavior business, The Thinking Dog, since 2000 in Houston. Our established 60yr. family history in coaching and training dog owners and their dogs makes us long standing experts in the field.

How did you hone your craft?

Dean began his journey of learning about dogs as he grew up around the family dog training business in the early 1980s. With a Unique Approach to Canine Behavior and Training When Quality Of Life With Your Companion Counts. We are about quality of life for both dog and owner. Houston’s ORIGINAL canine day care that’s rooted in training, learning games, activities, swimming and social skill building. In 2001, our innovative approach to Training and behavior combined with doggy day care began inside Houston’s largest indoor doggy day care facility in the Mid-Town area. Realizing that many dogs were beginning to behaviorally fail out of conventional doggy day care, we were called upon for our experience and expertise as behavior and obedience professionals. We developed an alternative program for those dogs that were highly intelligent and much more independent in their thinking to keep them social, structured, challenged and balanced. And since it worked so well, we began to offer it as an approach to preventing failures from occurring. Thus, The Thinking Dog Pack Socials, Pack Therapy and Skill Building as well as our Puppy Partners program, were born at Club Canine Where many times these services of dog day care are seen as nothing more than frivolous spoiling, we see them as a true vehicle for teaching, skill building and connecting owners with their canine companions in healthy relationships.See entire Bio: http://www.thethinkingdog.com/our-trainers/

Recommended Certifications for Dog Trainers

When choosing a dog trainer, professional certifications are a strong indicator of expertise, experience, and commitment to ethical, science-based methods. Widely recognized credentials include the CPDT-KA or CPDT-KSA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, which demonstrate mastery of modern training techniques, canine behavior, and learning theory. The KPA-CTP (Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner) highlights trainers skilled in positive reinforcement and clicker training, while the IAABC Certified Dog Trainer credential, recognized internationally, signals advanced knowledge in behavior modification and problem-solving. Membership or certification through the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) further reflects ongoing education and adherence to ethical standards. Many trainers also pursue specialty certifications in areas such as aggression management, behavior modification, or puppy development to address specific challenges.

For pet parents, choosing a certified trainer like Dean Miller, ensures that your dog’s training is grounded in science, safety, and compassion. Asking about a trainer’s credentials is one of the best ways to make a confident, informed choice.
