Certified Dog Trainer - Cat and Reptile Training Too! - St. Louis, MO
Hello, I'm Becky (she/her/hers), a passionate Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) with over four years of experience specializing in working with shy, fearful, feral, and behaviorally challenged dogs of all breeds. My expertise isn't limited to just canines, as I also have substantial experience with domestic cats, exotic pets, and a variety of unusual species through my clicker training sessions. Whether you're dealing with a rambunctious rabbit or a nervous parrot, I am here to help bring harmony back to your home. I offer personalized mobile services, which means I can bring my expertise right to your doorstep, making training convenient for both you and your pets.
Training pets is more than a profession for me; it's a way of life. My three dogs at home each have unique struggles, and helping them thrive in a human environment has given me firsthand insight into the challenges pet parents face daily. I am gearing up to introduce a fear and force-free rattlesnake avoidance class to ensure your pets stay safe in all environments. My training methods are grounded in compassion and understanding, utilizing tools like back-clip harnesses, clickers, and positive reinforcement to foster trust and effective learning. I also ensure a flexible approach to meet the unique needs of each pet, understanding that each one is a distinct individual.
I am committed to improving the lives of pets and their parents by offering solutions that work. If you're looking for a trainer who will treat your pet like family and provide the compassionate expertise needed to tackle any behavioral issues, I am ready to assist you. With a cancellation policy requiring just 24 hours' notice, I aim to accommodate your busy lifestyle. Ready to get started? Book me through Petworks today, and let's embark on a journey to a happier, well-behaved pet!

An hour in your home and yard to help you prepare to bring home a new dog or puppy. I will check your fencing/containment for hazards, can help choose or set up the new dog's initial decompression area, provide resources for possible behavior struggles new pet parents often see when bringing home a new family member, and help make a game plan for introductions to other pets and family members. This hour is designed to put the worries of a new pet parent at ease and answer all of those "Stupid Questions" that usually aren't stupid at all.
3 sessions spaced approximately every 2 weeks to address simple behavior struggles that just take a little mutual understanding and changed habits.
This series is designed for skills that the dog may need to learn like focus on walks, stationing/ "go to your bed" for in home management, recall work in a fenced yard, etc.
A walk in a mutually agreed-upon public area, such as local park or cemetery, during which we work on the dog's focus and social skills in a more stimulating environment than just their comfortable home or neighborhood.
Some neighborhoods just aren't good for some dogs; that's okay. Helping them learn what to do instead of what their instincts tell them to do in an over-stimulating situation can make walks in safe areas more enjoyable for everyone!
When helpful, one of our own dog-social, fully vaccinated dogs may join the session to serve as a "good example" or a polite, distant distraction in cases of reactivity.
4+ half hour sessions for the feral, fearful, shut down dog who needs a series of "small bites" in their home after a transition, change, health concern, or stressor to learn what is expected in their new situation.
Adopted a feral? I can help.
Adult dog lost after their doggie sibling goes to the Rainbow Bridge? I can help! Teaching and play have so many therapeutic benefits for our canine family members!
While I do not guarantee that you will never have another behavior concern again, I do consistently see improvement in dogs that are offered short, positive exposure to opportunities to make decisions and earn rewards.
Having a struggle with your reptile or pocket pet? I have years of experience with all types of "weird" pets, and positive reinforcement training works on them too!
At this session I would check your habitat temperatures and size, diet, etc against the accepted standards for that species to help decide whether a vet visit is warranted or not, as well as any modifications to their housing that may address the behavior challenge.
Please, no crocodilians, giant constrictors, or venomous/"hots".

What year did you begin serving pets?
Apprenticed in 2012. Certified in 2018.
How did you hone your craft?
I grew up with a difficult dog and never met an animal that didn't fascinate me. Eventually I realized teaching high schoolers wasn't where my heart really lies, but that the skills I picked up in the classroom are remarkably helpful for the "human" end of the leash in training scenarios. Learning how to teach two species at once was remarkably fun, though challenging at times.
What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?
You are always part of the struggle, even as you are part of the solution. Take your own 'temperature', address *your* needs, then look at the animal.
What is one thing you want pet parents to know about you? It can be whatev-fur you'd like!
I'm rather plain spoken but prone to dive too deeply into the nitty-gritty, nerdy, science stuff. Please don't expect some dry, boring ramble or be too offended if I slip in a 'grown up word' accidentally! We learn best in a fun, casual environment, which I try to provide while still being enthusiastic about the subject at hand.
