Certified Dog Trainer - Cat and Reptile Training Too! - St. Louis, MO by Becky Hahn
An hour in your home and yard to help you prepare to bring home a new dog or puppy. I will check your fencing/containment for hazards, can help choose or set up the new dog's initial decompression area, provide resources for possible behavior struggles new pet parents often see when bringing home a new family member, and help make a game plan for introductions to other pets and family members. This hour is designed to put the worries of a new pet parent at ease and answer all of those "Stupid Questions" that usually aren't stupid at all.
3 sessions spaced approximately every 2 weeks to address simple behavior struggles that just take a little mutual understanding and changed habits.
This series is designed for skills that the dog may need to learn like focus on walks, stationing/ "go to your bed" for in home management, recall work in a fenced yard, etc.
A walk in a mutually agreed-upon public area, such as local park or cemetery, during which we work on the dog's focus and social skills in a more stimulating environment than just their comfortable home or neighborhood.
Some neighborhoods just aren't good for some dogs; that's okay. Helping them learn what to do instead of what their instincts tell them to do in an over-stimulating situation can make walks in safe areas more enjoyable for everyone!
When helpful, one of our own dog-social, fully vaccinated dogs may join the session to serve as a "good example" or a polite, distant distraction in cases of reactivity.
4+ half hour sessions for the feral, fearful, shut down dog who needs a series of "small bites" in their home after a transition, change, health concern, or stressor to learn what is expected in their new situation.
Adopted a feral? I can help.
Adult dog lost after their doggie sibling goes to the Rainbow Bridge? I can help! Teaching and play have so many therapeutic benefits for our canine family members!
While I do not guarantee that you will never have another behavior concern again, I do consistently see improvement in dogs that are offered short, positive exposure to opportunities to make decisions and earn rewards.
Having a struggle with your reptile or pocket pet? I have years of experience with all types of "weird" pets, and positive reinforcement training works on them too!
At this session I would check your habitat temperatures and size, diet, etc against the accepted standards for that species to help decide whether a vet visit is warranted or not, as well as any modifications to their housing that may address the behavior challenge.
Please, no crocodilians, giant constrictors, or venomous/"hots".
