How did you hone your craft?

I apprenticed with a reputable trainer, attended and graduated from CATCH Canine Training Academy earning the title of CCDT (CTA), passed the CCPDT exam and have been a CPDT-KA (Certified Professional dog Trainer) for 8 years now. I am also a fully Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC) through the IAABC.Throughout the years, I have participated in ongoing continuing education much of which has been with the world's top trainers and behaviorists in order to bring the latest and the best of the science and craft to my clients.

What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?

Do not wait. Training should begin the day you bring that puppy or new rescue home and with the guidance of a professional. It is so much easier and less expensive to prevent a problem behavior early than it is to turn one around that has developed and this usually happens by 6 months of age when the pup is entering adolescence (earlier for small breeds). Training and socialization (which is not just about other dogs) should continue through the first 2 years of a dog's life and ideally on....

In addition to being a certified dog trainer and dog behavior specialist, I am also a retired teacher having taught elementary school French in the public school system for 26 years. As such, I am especially experienced in working with children as well as children with special needs.
