People Training for Good Dogs - Private Dog Training - East Falmouth, MA
As a former animal officer, I found that dog trainers weren't helping dog owners with the issues they were having just by owning dogs in our communities. I also discovered that many dog trainers wouldn't or couldn't help people and without help, their problems would just escalate. Being a horse owner, it became evident that if we approached dogs in our communities the way we do horses, it would be a win/win/win for dogs, people and our communities. Just think, if you are going to learn to ride a horse, you would call a riding instructor and NOT a horse trainer, but we only have dog trainers. What happened to teach people how to navigate their dogs through our crazy human world? Instead, we put all of the responsibility on our devoted pets to NOT be dogs around people! My program is different because it combines a horsemanship approach, where we are charged with approaching animals holistically. We need to understand all about them and about ourselves. We are also charged with building up our skills and abilities so we can work in harmony. And, no matter how much we love our dogs, legally they are considered property that can cause damage. My program also combines a "defensive driving" type safety module, covering all of the liability issues that can occur when people your dog encounters, have no concept of what their behavior means to your pet. Dogs are pretty predictable but people are not! The amount of dogs who lose their lives because of human error is tragic. Many owners have no idea until it's too late. This program includes approximately 20 hours of both private and group lessons, held within my own private dog park. Emphasis is placed on working with everyone in the family with situations you will encounter in your real life. No one lives in a show ring and pleasing a show judge doesn't help when owners are faced with out of the ring, real-life encounters with people and other dogs. Additional services include cage-less boarding and daycare where all dogs get a full day of daycare fun! Please contact and book our private dog training services on Petworks. Thank You.

How did you hone your craft?
Practice, practice, practice! As the animal officer I was often working with dogs with issues and did not get to choose to work with just easy animals. To not put dogs to sleep as the main solution, I knew that I needed to develop a quick and humane way of helping dogs and their owners! By addressing dogs in the way they understand best, positive changes are immediate.
What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?
Taking a horsemanship approach means we work WITH the animals. Many dog owners have been allowed to use their leash as a joystick to push and pull their dogs through their lives. I teach how to work WITH our dogs so that they NEVER feel on leash. This requires PRACTICE. When we think that the dog has to make changes and not ourselves, we often aren't allowing that it can take us time to change our habits so that our relationship is smooth and beneficial for not ony ourselves but our dogs.
What is one thing you want pet parents to know about you? It can be whatev-fur you'd like!
My award winning book, People Training for Good Dogs-what breeders don't tell you and trainers don't teach, is available through any book seller. I also have a BS in Animal Science, a Nursing degree, training in small animal acupressure, reiki and other complementary modalities.
