Custom Watercolor Original Pet Portrait - New York, NY
This listing is for one watercolor pet portrait painting, custom painted from a photo you supply, on Strathmore heavy watercolor paper, in 9x12 size (paper will be oriented however makes the most sense with the photo supplied) with a blank background (may contain a shadow if the composition calls for one) with a mat included to make exterior dimensions 11x14, a standard frame size. I can paint multiple animals within one painting, and in sizes from 9x12 to 12x18. For other sizes and more animals, click here: https://www.wanderinglaur.com/product-page/custom-watercolor-pet-portrait-original-painting My style is detailed and realistic, to best capture the essence and expression of your pet!
I will happily paint commissioned portraits of any species of pet: dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, moose, deer, fish or more. If you keep a baby buffalo at home, I'll paint that for you too! All I need is a good-quality image, showing the animal in the exact pose you'd like for the painting. I can include two or more pets in a single portrait from different photos, if your furry friends are not the most patient at posing. Please keep in mind that the final piece is based on the quality of photos received! Feel free to send several photos if you're having trouble deciding. If you'd like a different size than those listed, or more than two pets depicted, or have some other preference, message me for pricing and I'll create a custom listing just for you.
The photos show a few examples of commissioned pet portraits; I've painted hundreds of pets as well as all sorts of animals, from aardvarks to zebra finches! A pet portrait also makes an awesome, uniquely personal gift.
If you would like sugar skull embellishments in pen and ink and acrylic on the custom painting (see examples here: https://www.wanderinglaur.com/product-page/sugar-skull-dog-or-cat-of-your-choice-mixed-media-dia-de-los-muertos), I'm happy to do that! In that case, I will deliver the original, unadorned painting as well as an 8.5x11 sugar skull, so you will receive two finished products.
Paintings typically take approximately 5 weeks to complete from the order date. If you need it sooner, please let me know, and I will try to accommodate your timing, although please note that the more advance notice, the better. The painting will be signed in the bottom right-hand corner. All copyrights reserved by the artist.

How did you hone your craft?
I'm largely self-taught but have been painting pet portraits for half my life, and have painted over 500 commissioned pet portraits, including dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, birds, hedgehogs, ducks, and even a moose, among others. I came back to painting after hurricane Sandy, my father's animal hospital had to be completely rebuilt, and I painted dozens of animals to adorn the walls. Clients began making requests, and the rest is history.

Take lots of pictures of your pets - you never know when and how you will want to use them!

As the daughter of a veterinarian and an art dealer, it's almost as if I was born to paint pets...
