What year did you begin serving pets?

I began doing pet portraits in 1998

How did you hone your craft?

I have done pet portraits in my spare time for many years, favoring chalk and oil pastels as I was taught to use them in art classes growing up, and later on while studying to earn my Bachelor's in Fine Arts.. Over the past year I transitioned to the digital medium. I use computers for work and freelance all the time, so one day it finally dawned on me to change the way I do portraits, which is incredibly time consuming and often difficult to fit in to my schedule as a Mom with a full time job. As soon as I began experimenting in Photoshop, something just clicked. I have always gone for a realistic style while trying to use a lot of color and play with lights and shadows at the same time. Starting with a photo, software allows me to do all those things, and to bring out the expression of the subject in a romantic, humanized way without losing that element of realism.

What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?

High resolution, good quality photos are the best base for creating for gorgeous digital portraits.

What is one thing you want pet parents to know about you? It can be whatev-fur you'd like!

I have three dogs. Beans, Nyxie and Zuzu!
