Alyssa Smith - Pet Portrait Art - Orlando, FL
When I was in college my childhood puppy passed away. Instead of studying for exams I edited his photo until I had an abstract, pop art looking finished product. I uploaded myfirst ever "Pup Art" on Facebook and the requests came flying in. It has been almost 7 years since that day and I have completed almost 700 portraits in that time.
What I do is digitally edit pictures that you send to me. (The better the picture, the better the end result) Once I've created something that I like, I send you a proof to make sure you like the colors, sizing etc. I will then make changes and once you have approved I email you an invoice. Once you have paid I order your print(s). You can have them printed on any medium in any size - in any range of colors - I love to take requests. I usually recommend printing on paper and framing them or printing on canvas. 11x14 paper prints and 16x20 canvases have been the most popular sizes. I charge $150 per pet/subject plus the cost of printing and shipping. I can put multiple pets in one print if that's what you would like. The art fee is still per pet because each pet is worked on individually and shown the same attention as if it was in its own print.

What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?
I can work with almost any picture. Bigger files work best (iPhone pictures emailed as full-sized attachments are great!) If you have favorite pictures of your pups send them my way. If you would like to take new ones I recommend taking pictures outside while holding a treat or toy behind the camera. Depending on how wild your dogs are you might need to take a million before you get a winner! A little patience goes a long way!
